Looking for new ideas for a family reunion in 2011. We have been doing a meet and greet on Friday, picnic on Saturday and church on Sunday. I am wanting to change it up a bit. Thanks
You should plan to travel to another state. I'm in the process of working on my family reunion for next year. May sure the reunion is kid friendly. Because it will soon be their turn to be in charge of the reunion and the new ideas. Something that you should try to do on the picnic day play outside games like sack race, horseshoe, water gun fight. Fun filled and your should do door prizes and certificates

Movie Night for the kids, (Game Systems) Wii Bowling championship with prizes.
Elders Get Together, (make sure it is video taped). Lots of history and family stories can be preserved.
Nicknames and Country Names,
Every family has those infamous nicknames and most of us do not know what their real names are.
Family Health History Awareness: We have addressed "Breast Cancer Awareness' as part of our family gatherings. We recognize survivors and allow them a chance to speak about it. It is a great way to remind each other to take care of ourselves and each other.

Look into switching out the picnic in the park with a banquet in a hotel ballroom if the costs allow it. I did this with our family reunion this past year because the picnic in the park theme was well past boring, and it well past time for a change. It was something different for my family and let me tell you, family members are STILL talking about it. One of my cousins has asked me for ideas for her Dad's family reunion that's being held this summer.
I agree with everyone else that said have game night as your meet-n-greet, and take it to another state. Destination family reunions are the best in my opinion. You can also get a bus and schedule a tour at a museum of some sort in the city where you're having your event. Or if you can't afford the bus (we couldn't), request drivers that are willing to take people out on a tour. You'll be surprised at the turn-out. Hope this helps. :-)
